Celtic FC Development Program 2007

Markham Soccer Club (MSC) is pleased to announce a one week Training and Development Program, lead by one of the greatest soccer teams in the world –Celtic Football Club from Scotland.  The course this summer is intended to develop a relationship that will encompass an annual Player Development Training Program, Coaching Education and Team Tours/Travel.  "All our players and coaches will benefit from this tremendous opportunity as Markham Soccer will be able to offer top notch soccer training and development.  It’s very important that we continue to evolve and offer the very best in soccer training and by developing a relationship with Celtic we are ensuring that both our players and coaches receive a complete soccer education." says Markham’s Technical Director Tom McGarrigle.

Markham’s Affiliation with Celtic will kick-off with a one-week Player Development Program (open to players 8 -18 yrs of age) scheduled for July 9, 2007 to July 13, 2007 in Markham called “Celtic in the Community - Train and Play the Celtic Way”.  This international program was launched in 2003 and is currently the biggest and most successful in Britain, with over 500,000 participants having “trained and played the Celtic Way".

The one week Development Program will be lead by four (4) Celtic Academy Coaches that oversee the day to day development of many of the professional soccer stars who have graduated from the Celtic Academy into their first team. The Program is designed to provide teams and players with the edge over their rivals as Academy Coaches will focus on improving each player’s technical, tactical, positional, physical and social skills both individually and as a unit; all the while educating on the proper preparation for matches and training, warm-up techniques and how to give themselves the best opportunity to reach the elite level in soccer.

"Celtic Football Club, through its community coaching arm Celtic in the Community, is delighted to be working with Markham Soccer Club to deliver a training and development programme for players and coaches.  Over the last 4 years Celtic in the Community has delivered tailored courses for all ages and abilities of player throughout Scotland and Ireland, and now internationally in Germany, Cyprus, North America, Australia, and Canada. Of the number that have taken part in our programmes, over 300 have been involved in the club’s Youth Development structure at either Development Centre or Youth Academy level.  It is an exciting time for the club as it builds relationships with youth soccer clubs, and embarks on a programme of education and development that will undoubtedly aid the game at grass roots level.”    Graeme Mathie, Community Development Manager.

In conjunction with the Player Development Program, Celtic Community and Academy Coaches will also conduct a Coaching Education Course during the week. The course will be open to all interested coaches who wish to benefit from various developmental aspects in soccer focusing on youth and professional development.

The Celtic in the Community Player Development Program will also be an excellent platform for players who attend the week long course to display their talents to Celtic’s team of Coaches for a possible opportunity to be invited to the Celtic’s training centre in Scotland.  For more information please contact Sanford Carabin at sanford@telus.blackberry.net or call (416) 873 3287
