The season’s focus was on development and being competitive - a winning percentage was considered a bonus and the expectations for this first year squad were kept within reason. The season started slowly with a couple of close one goal losses.  Not deterred, the U 13 Girls, guided by Head Coach Ian Brough, assistants Robin Wisken and Dean Volpe, pulled it together and surged up the standings finishing first overall.  An unexpected finish to a successful rookie season culminated by wonderful efforts by coaches, players and the Lightning fans!  Supporting this outstanding season were team sponsors Markel Insurance Company of Canada, S&F International Foods, and Ellis Packaging.

Contributing to the overall success of the “Championship Rookie Season” were Leah Brough, Brenna Byer, Kristen Drew, Mariah Fujimagari (keeper), Angelica Harper, Laura Henderson, Samantha Keen, Brittany King, Lauren Lee, Laura Lukewich, Noula Nearing, Taylor Neilson, Hailey Newton, Alyssa Paoletti, Alyssa Porter, Jessica Oxenham, and Catherine Rizza.

Under 12 Markham Lightning Girls Fundraiser

The Markham Lightning Under 12 girls recently held a raffle for Mother's Day at the Sobeys on McCowan Road and Bur Oak . The team had a wonderful day selling tickets and promoting their team at the entrance to Sobeys . The draw was held on Wednesday 9th and one lucky Mom won a fabulous gift basket . The team would like to express its gratitude to Sobeys manager Dwayne Keating for supporting our team and community.
