Markham Men Win The Nationals
The Markham Men's Masters team won the National Club Championship on Thanksgiving Monday beating PEI in the final game.
This division was hosted by Soccer New Brunswick in Moncton. It included the 4 Maritime provinces, Quebec and Ontario. In the preliminary round, Ontario (the Markham Men) faced New Brunswick and then Quebec. The team didn`t have much chance to play since the Ontario Cup final so it took them the first half of the game against New Brunswick to regain their form. In the end, they beat New Brunswick 5 - 0. We anticipated a tough game against Quebec as they beat New Brunswick 5 - 1. That was not to be as Ontario dominated and won the game by a score of 7 - 1.
In the final, Ontario faced a physically strong and aggressive PEI team. Markham scored early and led at the half by a score of 3 - 1. In the second half, PEI came on strong and attempted to even the score but the Markham Men held them off until late in the game when they regained control and scored one more. Final score: Ontario 4 - PEI 1.

Semi-Final Game Report
August 23rd, provded to be a special day for the MSC. The Men’s O35 team prevailed in overtime in their semi-final match against Ottawa Capitals for a 2-1 victory and a birth in the Ontario Cup Finals. Our Markham team battled back from a 1-0 half time deficit to take full control of the game, yet needed overtime to net the winner. The finals will be played at the Ontario Soccer Centre in Vaughan, on Saturday, September 6th, at 8 p.m. We look forward to having as many of our MSC supporters out, wearing black shirts or MSC Lightning uniforms to cheer on an exceptionally talented team. This will be, both a great showcase for our club, as well as a great example of excellent soccer for both current MSC players and coaches. The competition on the 6th will be GS United which features, Lyndon Hooper, and Craig Forrest on their rosters, both are former Canadian Nationals, with the Craig Forrest serving as a sportscaster for Sportsnet, on Soccer Central. See you all there, cheering “This is our House”, waving your MSC flags and banners, wearing your black shirts, trying to propel your MSC Lightning team to an Ontario Championship and onto Nationals.
